measure me in metered lines and one decisive stare, the time it takes to get from here to there. my ribs that show through t-shirts and these shoes i got for free, i'm unconsoled, i'm lonely, i am so much better than i used to be. )

REMUS J. NEVER THOUGHT HE'D CATCH THIS LOVEBUG AGAIN. [17 Jul 2009|08:23pm]
I've just finished Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy. It was so mind-bogglingly, impossibly, chilled-down-to-the-marrow depressing that while finishing it up, I almost didn't mind the girl in the coffee shop who was playing that song by the Jonas Brothers so loudly on her cell phone. If only to know that there are still pop groups somewhere in the world who remain "hopeless, breathless, baby, can't you see" even when Thomas Hardy seems so intent on proving that life is not worth the breath it takes to live.

It was beautiful writing, though. It's almost difficult to reconcile the graceful, immaculate style of his sentences with the why-bother-even-waking-up-in-the-morning sentiment in their content. But it did make the pages worth turning, if nothing else.
